A one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind

Dammit, this was going to be my Master’s thesis (if I ever went to grad school). Although I would have to say that this (as with pretty much every study) is not without its flaws. First of all, although 1,500 song previews from iTunes’ R&B and Pop singles seems like a large sample, it is hardly a representative of the music listened to by all.

Second, I don’t think age really has as much to do with it as the title (the actual article really never says anything about it) leads you to believe. I think the amount of memory association one has with a song has more to do with the intensity of emotion during that time than age (although arguably most people have the most intense emotional times in their teenage years). People (at least me) are more likely to remember songs they heard at the most memorable points in their life, regardless of what age they were at. At least that’s my theory, I’m working on it.
